Members, Sustainability Reporting Board

The External Reporting Board (XRB) is an independent Crown Entity responsible for preparing and issuing financial reporting, auditing and assurance, and climate standards for New Zealand. 

Our purpose is to promote trust and confidence, transparency and accountability through high-quality external reporting and assurance. We do this by establishing and maintaining robust frameworks that are internationally credible and relevant to New Zealand. 

We are seeking two (2) members for the Sustainability Reporting Board (SRB). The SRB is a committee of the XRB Board with delegated authority to prepare and issue climate standards and non-binding guidance on other non-financial reporting. We are specifically looking for candidates to cover the following areas of expertise:

  • Preparer of financial statements (such as a Chief Financial Officer or equivalent); and/or
  • An investor user, with experience in using sustainability and climate related disclosures to make or inform investment and/or lending decisions; and/or
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of te ao and mātauranga Māori, with experience bringing Māori perspectives into governance and reporting contexts.

Position details  

These appointments will be for an initial term of between two to three (2-3) years, which is renewable. 

Members’ workload is expected to be equivalent of up to approximately 10 to 15 days per annum. The SRB will have six (6) meetings per year.

Remuneration is at a fixed daily rate established by the Remuneration Authority.  Some domestic travel is expected; all reasonable related expenses will be reimbursed. 

Candidate  

The XRB is seeking applications from those with: 

  • a strong understanding of the role of sustainability reporting in achieving sustainability outcomes
  • any of the three areas of desired expertise stated above 
  • the ability to consider and address climate and sustainability reporting issues at the detailed technical level
  • respect and understanding of the importance of te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori to the work of the XRB
  • the ability to understand the developing international and domestic environment in which the XRB operates, with the ability to bring strategic foresight to SRB discussions, including of emerging issues in sustainability reporting
  • an ability and willingness to actively and constructively contribute effectively to SRB deliberations and decisions 
  • high standards of honesty and integrity and a commitment to acting in the public interest.
