EFRAG outreach session: ESRS for certain non-EU undertakings (ESRS-40a Exposure Draft) – New Zealand stakeholders

The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG), with support from the XRB, is hosting an outreach session for New Zealand stakeholders on EFRAG’s Exposure Draft of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards for Certain Non-EU Undertakings (ESRS-40a).

 

The session will provide an opportunity to learn about the ESRS-40a Exposure Draft, hear directly from EFRAG staff, ask questions, and share feedback that may help inform the future development of the standard. The public consultation on the Exposure Draft is open until 31 October 2026. 

 

It is proposed that reporting under ESRS-40a would be mandatory for financial years starting on or after 1 January 2028. 

 

Who should attend? 

This event is primarily intended for New Zealand groups that may be affected by Article 40a of the EU Accounting Directive. Article 40a applies to non-EU undertakings that: 

 

  • generate more than EUR 450 million net turnover in the EU during each of the last two consecutive financial years; 

  • and either: 

    • have an EU branch generating more than EUR 200 million, or 

    • are the ultimate parent of EU subsidiaries generating more than EUR 200 million. 

 

Others who may be interested in attending include sustainability professionals, industry bodies and assurance practitioners. 

 

Participation options 

The workshop will have two categories of participants: 

 

Contributors 

Contributors will be able to actively participate in the discussion, respond to questions from EFRAG, and provide verbal feedback on the proposals contained in the Exposure Draft. 

 

Observers 

Observers are welcome to attend the session and follow the discussion. Observers will be able to participate through the chat function but will not take part in the facilitated discussion. 

Registration 

Registration is required. 

 

Participants will be asked to indicate whether they wish to attend as a Contributor or an Observer when registering. The decision as to whether a participant attends as a Contributor or an Observer will be made by EFRAG with input from the XRB.
